Dinh Tuyen

Biography

Not flashy, loud, or defiant, Nguyen Dinh Tuyen paints with genuine emotion. His brushstrokes blend between painting and drawing, between painting and smearing, between painting and decoration, and between physical color image and cognitive color image, to renew the lacquer material in each work.

Artist Nguyen Dinh Tuyen was born in 1968 in Hanoi. In 1991, he graduated from the Vietnam University of Fine Arts. After graduating, he worked dozens of jobs to make a living, but after experiencing it, he realized that it was not the career he wanted to stick with for the rest of his life. So Nguyen Dinh Tuyen decided to give up everything to focus on painting.

Inspired by the love for his homeland, Tuyen's paintings bear the mark of the Northern Delta countryside. Images of banana leaf boats, lotus flowers, banyan trees, water wharves, and communal courtyards were skillfully and uniquely included in his paintings.

Having previously owned 4 personal exhibitions, Tuyen made his mark in the painting industry with many valuable works and awards. Many of his outstanding works are currently kept at the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum, as well as in domestic and foreign collections.

Artist Nguyen Dinh Tuyen shared: "I want to elevate simple, familiar images but imbued with Vietnamese soul into painting. Therefore, I mix and transform them through my hands, renewing seemingly old things with emotional drawings."
