Thang Long Art Gallery

“Thang Long” is the former name of Hanoi, chosen by Emperor Ly Thai To, the first ruler of the Ly Dynasty, as the ancient capital of Vietnam in the year 1010. “Thang” (昇) means Rising and “Long” (龍) means Dragon. The name carries in itself a thousand years of history and culture of Vietnam’s capital city.

At Thang Long Art Gallery, we strive to preserve the heritage and culture of our country. Flowing in our DNA, we and our artists celebrate the beauty, values, and people of Vietnam.

Established in May 1996, Thang Long Art is one of Hanoi's oldest private art galleries. Known locally for promoting Vietnamese art and for fostering artistic talent and cultural exchanges, our mission is to cultivate creative dialogue, celebrate diversity, and provide a platform for artists and art enthusiasts to connect.

Located in the heart of Hanoi's Old Quarter, our gallery is also one of the largest in the capital, spanning over 520m2 (5,600 sqft), showcasing Vietnam's rich heritage amidst charming architecture and vibrant street markets. Immersed in the district's lively atmosphere, visitors can appreciate our diverse art collection while enjoying the picturesque scenery. Explore the narrow streets, browse the gallery, or sip Vietnamese coffee nearby to experience the unique charm and artistic ambiance this neighborhood offers.

Over the last three decades, Thang Long Art have built strong relationships and developed together with many leading established artists in Vietnam, such as Hong Viet Dung, Dang Xuan Hoa, from the “The Gang of Five” group, Bui Huu Hung from “Avant-Garde” and many other well-known artists such as Thanh Chuong, Le Thiet Cuong, Thanh Binh, Ngo Van Sac, Ly Tran Quynh Giang, Vu Thu Hien etc.

We have on display artworks that are increasingly rare and exclusive from master artists such as Vu Duy Nghia (1935-2022, To Ngoc Van’s class 1955-1957), Phung Pham (b.1932) and Nguyen Trung (b.1940).

Thang Long Art also supports and promotes emerging artists with exhibitions held in Vietnam, Japan, Singapore, UAE (Dubai), etc.

We are extremely honored to have greeted a number of international diplomats, state figures, and monarchs, especially the Queen of Norway, Malaysian royals, and recently, Thang Long Art Gallery and artist Ngo Van Sac had the opportunity to welcome and discuss about the art of wood-burn paintings with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz during his official visit to Vietnam.
